Memorial Card

A memorial card records the death of a family member or friend. These cards were especially popular in Europe and the Americas in the nineteenth century.

Such cards were sometimes provided with embroidery on cloth. On other occasions on special, pierced paper. It was normal to work such embroideries in black thread (silk or cotton), but there are examples embroidered with human hair (either from the deceased or a mourner).
