Textiles of Asia: Identifying Weave Structures, is the title of a workshop that will be given by Sandra Sardjono at the TRC, Hogewoerd 164, on Wednesday 17th July, from 10.00 - 13.00.
In this course, we will cover the basic/ simple weaves (plain weave, twill, and satin), their variations (for example tapestry and gauze), and compound weaves (for example double cloth and those with supplementary and complementary elements ). We will discuss textile examples from different areas of Asia for each of the structures, the looms with which they were made, as well as the historical contexts in which they occurred.
