An important part of a Muslim’s life is the Hajj or annual pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. This exhibition explores the history of the Hajj, its role in Islamic society and, especially, the differences between men and women’s clothing. The garments on display include men’s hajj clothing from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as well as traditional and modern outfits for women from countries as far apart as Morocco, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, Kuwait and Zanzibar.
