This collection includes countries and cultures from Morocco to Central Asia: namely, the Islamic World. Garments and accessories in the TRC collection come from most countries and cultures within this broad geographical spread. However, the collection is particularly strong with respect to Egypt, Iran, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan and Zanzibar (especially kangas). It is also currently increasing its Palestinian and Turkish holdings.Although we concentrate on a primarily Muslim region, this does not mean we ignore other religious groups. The TRC is building up a comprehensive collection of monastic and liturgical dress from the Coptic Church, Egypt. It also includes Druze, Jewish and Zoroastrian outfits. This side of the TRC's work is regarded as essential in order to create a balanced image of dress and identity within any region of the world.
