A festival outfit for a Pashtun woman from Afghanistan. It is made from Chinese brocade and decorated with embroidery, beading, as well as sequins and small bells. It often comes as a complete surprise for people that such a colourful outfit is worn in a country that otherwise is generally associated with women wearing all-envelopping burqas.

  • Contents: The display includes the outfit, two photographs and a short text describing the history and role of this style of clothing.
  • Availability: This display is now available
