World's longest embroidery

The World's Longest Embroidery. The World's Longest Embroidery.

The Embroiderers' Guild in the UK organised what would become the world's longest embroidery. The Guild did so to mark its 100th anniversary. Work started in 2003 and in 2009 it measured more than 605 metres, and thereby set a new Guinness World Record. The embroidery was hand worked by some 7000 embroiderers from all over the world.

The embroidery contains a plethora of designs, colours and subject matters, including 3D insects, flowers, people's names, etc. Peple have always been free to work whatever motif they wanted.  By 2017 it was displayed at various venues in the UK, where it could also still be embellished and added to. The Guild has since set up a comparable project, namely the World's Longest Embroidery for Schools. Invitations were sent to schools in Australia, Canada, the UK and the USA.
