There are four main forms of purl: a) Bright check purl: a purl with a faceted (zig-zag) and shiny surface. Instead of being wrapped around a tubular shape a triangle form is used; b) Crimped purl (French: Faconnée): a purl with a characteristically spiral configuration. Instead of being wrapped around a tubular shape a triangle form is used; c) Rough purl: a purl with a smooth surface and a matt appearance; d) Smooth purl: a purl with a smooth surface and shiny appearance.
