Holland

Holland or Holland cloth is a tabby woven, matt linen cloth used as a furniture cover, window cover, jar cover, and so forth.

It was often made in the Netherlands, hence its name, Holland. This type of material was also used for fine towels and cover panes that were often embroidered. By the nineteenth century the same term was used to describe a cotton material that was more or less opaque. The cotton cloth sometimes had a glaze that was called a Holland finish.
