Leonardo da Vinci Design (Cyprus)

Example of the Leonardo da Vinci design. Example of the Leonardo da Vinci design.

Leonardo da Vinci is the name for a particular design used for Lefkara lace from the island of Cyprus. The design is locally called potamos.

The name is linked to an old story that tells that Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) visited the island in the late sixteenth century and bought a piece of lace for the altar of Milan cathedral.
