Workshop double knitting, Thursday 30 January 2020

An example of double knitting.

An example of double knitting.

The technique of double knitting creates a workpiece that has a beautiful appearance on two sides. There is a positive and a negative image of the knitted motif and no loops are visible on “the back”. The layers are separate from each other and at the edges of the motifs the threads cross, so that the work has "connection". The technique gives a special effect and is especially suitable for use in knitted pieces where both sides of the object are visible. For example, a pot holder is a good starting piece. Applications in shawls, shawls and cowls are great!

The workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced knitters. Each starts with the phase that is not yet mastered. The structure: (A): Knit straight with the thread over the left index finger and one colour. (B): Match with the thread over the left index finger and one colour. (C): Knitting in motifs with two colours, according to the Norwegian way. (D): The double knitting itself.

The workshop is given by Mrs. Hadewych van der Werf, specialist in the field of Norwegian and other knitting techniques. The workshop is spread over the entire day, from 10.30 in the morning to 15.00 in the afternoon, with a break. A similar workshop was also given on January 24, 2019. A sequel to the January 2020 workshop will be given on 27 February, 2020.
