Long Shades

Long shades is a nineteenth century term for a type of Berlin wool thread, in which the colour gradually changes from light to dark over a long length of the thread.

With the 'long shades' the complete change takes place over a distance of about one metre or more. With 'short shades' the change runs over a distance of less than one metre.
