Colourful Afghanistan: urban and regional dress from Afghanistan

The exhibition includes men, women and children’s clothing from different urban and ethnic groups living in Afghanistan. The outfits presented are of Pashtun, Hazara, Kuchi, Nuristani, Turkmen, and Uzbek origins, as well as men’s clothing from Kabul and Kandahar. In addition, there are special items for dancing and buzkashi, a form of ‘polo.’

  • Contents: The exhibition comes with over thirty outfits and garments, photographs and a text that briefly explains the history of Afghanistan, the main ethnic and cultural groups, , and how Hamid Karzi, the president of Afghanistan, uses Afghan dress to present a picture of Afghan unity. In addition, a special section emphasizes the various forms of embroidery and decorative techniques used to decorate Afghan dress for men and women is included.
